Making/Receiving Payments

California's child support program is using exciting new technology to collect, track and pay out child support payments statewide. Today most court-ordered child support payments are paid through wage withholding and processed at a centralized location—the California State Disbursement Unit (SDU).

The SDU processes all of the support payments that used to be handled by individual local child support agencies (LCSA). In addition, California law requires that all child support payments made through wage withholding be sent to the SDU—even if the case is not being enforced by an LCSA. To best serve the public, the SDU has made several options available for making and receiving support payments.
